Dicyandiamide Overview
Commonly known as dicyandiamide (DICY), the white crystalline compound is the dimer for cyanamide or for cyanoguanidine. The primary use of the chemical is in the production of melamine, but it is also as a curing agent for epoxy resins.
DICY crystals melt at 45° C, and are soluble in water and alcohol. Other uses for the compound are in the manufacture of fertilizers, explosives, oil well drilling muds, pharmaceuticals, and dyestuffs.

About Dicyandiamide
Dicyandiamde (DICY) is a strongly alkaline and water-soluble white crystalline compound with the scientific name of cyanoguanidine. The chemical is the dimer of cyanamide or cyanoguanidine, which is mainly used in the production of melamine. DICY is also used as a curing agent for epoxy resins and laminates for circuit boards, powder coatings and adhesives.
Cyanamide, the amide of normal cyanic acid, is a white crystal that melts at 45° C. It is readily soluble in water, alcohol and diethyl ether. It is prepared commercially by the carbide process from the carbonate derived from limestone or by the desulphurization of thiourea in the presence of catalyst (mercuric oxide).
Cyanamide is also prepared by the action of ammonia with cyanogene halides. Cyanamide polymerizes to dicyandiamide when heated over 150° C and to tricyantriamide as well as to melamine.
Applications using Dicyandiamide
